Swimming at St George's
As part of the Sports provision, St George's with support of Active Tameside, takes all Y4 children swimming every week for 26 weeks. In Y5 and Y6 children who have not met the national curriculum requirement to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at last 25 metres then engage in top up lessons in the Summer term of both year groups if necessary.
In 2024/25 there were 18 children in Year 6.
The data for the Year 6 group in 2024/2025 was as follows:
73% met the national curriculum requirement
68% could use a range of strokes effectively
58% could perform safe self rescue in different water-based situations.
